JJ will always be a contentious deity, it's an uncharacteristically *very* heavy injection of RNG into the game and IS a presence that some players tend to avoid. Myself included, funnily enough.
As far as RNG matters are concerned, I actually fit quite snugly on the deterministic side of the fence. Even the fact that Magic Resistance is random vs some glyphs can grate me on occasion.
That said, there's a population of players who do find value and entertainment in, say, the Rogue dodge ability, and it has made for some noteworthy moments in my own games. Personally, I am EXTREMELY happy with the new first strike glyph because it really does turn dodge into something much more manageable and intelligent (IMO) than "swing and pray".
I do not find the punishments too much bother myself, actually. But then maybe that's because I have luxury of knowing his formula (it's not very complicated, but it exists). So I can actually "predict" JJ's mood a little more easily than most, and I suppose that's the single most obfuscated piece of god knowledge in the game right now.
Speaking of which, we were joking in the office that JJ's punishment should be avoidable with a successful dodge roll. Awesome or what?
