Will there be Female portraits?

Postby ChiRex on Sun Aug 21, 2011 8:04 am

In most rpg type games you can choose different gender male/female. So far all of the pictures are male. I was wandering if you will have an option to choose female pictures for each race later on.

This is definitely something we're keen on doing, but we'd probably make it random every time you went into a dungeon, so you wouldn't know if you were going to be male or female until you started a run :)

My bet is on a girl. My girl. Who may or may not be born tonight. I've got a 100% ratio for correctly guessing the genders of my children so far. (1 of 1).

We're also doing a DIY homebirth, so wish us luck eh?

Please don't. We choose our race and class before every run, let us also be able to choose gender.

Race and class actually matter for gameplay, gender would just be the portrait. I see no reason to clutter the interface with an extra button; just leave it random.

I like the idea of randomly assigning non-gameplay related attributes to characters. Maybe if time permits they could even have randomly assigned names? The player is only the kingdom administrator, after all, the heroes are just hired mercenaries. And if they each had a name I'd feel a little more guilty about sending them to their doom. :)

Aesthetics are still important. I mean they aren't updating the graphics for no reason right? And it's still an RPG. I dislike playing females in games if I have the option to avoid it.

Anyway, I've given my input. So whatever.

Aesthetic is important, but should always serve to complement function, not get in its way. Adding an extra button to an already cluttered list of options before entering a dungeon wouldn't be a good move at all.

Why not just assign a gender to a profile?

Because the profile refers to the leader/owner of the kingdom, instead of the adventurers?

A radio button that defaults to the last choice would be fine though and wouldn't require extra clicking when you don't care. In fact, most preparations should be selectable before choosing dungeons and race/classes. And there should be a "same as last time" button.
