I don't know what the final UI is going to look like, but based on the current iteration I wouldn't say a male/female choice would be "clutter" if they just had the male/female default races right next to eachother in the race selection boxes. You'd just pick which one you want as your normal race selection, in one click.
It would also kind of be weird to select a race (which are all default male) and end up with a female character. If they're going to add a female version of every race and class they might as well do one for the default races as well, IMO.
Or, hell, maybe they could actually make it a choice that matters in some small way. I might even be inclined to play a female happily in that case
