I'm starting to notice a trend in my major victories in Vicious dungeons: they all have happened during the time between rounds at debate. First was VHoS and DI victories to unlock the respective monster classes, with NC spread out over a particularly long tournament. Decided this weekend to try my hand at VGT with dragon shield+patches vampire, and though initial runs were torpedoed by RNG giving 8th or 9th floor bloodless, my most recent attempt had enough lifesteal, resists, and DR from a lucky platemail find that I was able to heal myself off of a berserking Horatio. Never needed any of the potions (Whupaz, reflex, and quicksilver included) that I had brought with me.

Yet despite this, VGT is now taunting me to try it without using a cheesy class like the vamp. If only it didn't take so much time, I'd be tempted to try throwing a fighter at it to see what happens.

Nice job The Tapir!

I feel the same way about DD debates. For me, all my major strats were created thanks to them, because I learned new things from people and combined those bits of info with previous knowledge.

Lvl 1 bosskills were mostly inspired by Lujo's videos, just to mention.

The EWJ strat spawned because Lujo created a topic about Elves and Sorcerers. At the time I haven't played Elf caster's in months, and prior to that never gave Elf Wizards a serious try either. It was partially the fault of Orc Wizards too, they were just too damn good for any job.

I shouldn't forget about the great topics of DD beta either. Learned quite a few tricks from Avatar's Goblin Assasin of TT, Sidestepper's Acid Caster and Blovski's Healthmonster too.

If I can give you an advice about VGT, it's that resist stacking and sanguine are the kings there. With every class.
It reminds me of Lujo saying at various places that once you learn your gods nearly all your classes will play the same (which was in complete contrast with my experiences), or recently that resistances are the most influential stat in the game (I also felt that it only matters for classes who start out with it, because others can't raise it to high enough points reliably), but then I started playing VGT again and they all made sense.

Congrats sitnaltax!

My first VGT win was with a Dwarf Rougue too :)

There are 3 major things that can give resistances for everyone: prepped Dragon Shield, Taurog, Dracul. Preferably in this order. The ritual scroll adds +5% both, and some classes can withstand Patches.

Then there's also Pactmaker's Body Pact, but so far he only showed up at the right time for me once :P

High resistances are only really crucial for the boss fight, but it obviously helps if you manage to get a lot sooner.

Farming Binlors various magic resistance sources also gets your damage pretty high. That's how I did Gorgon VGT as far as I remember. Oh and *blush* about all the name drops. I guess I started a lot of debates over the years ^^

And learned from them, too :)

And, err, if you'd guys like I could do you a writeup on resists and res stacking in a separate post, it was kinda my major ;)

Totally true Tinker!

Turns out being slowed is better than I thought :)

@Lujo: Debates are cool, you can get a chance to see something from someone else's view. And I'm interested to see that writeup :)

Edit: I managed to miss The Tapir's point twice in a row :P
I guess it shows that English isn't my native language at times.

Did any of you have any luck with Hoarder or Purist on VGT? After stomping it with a Vamp on Miser (forgot to prep Fortitude or Burn Salve, won with lots of resources left anyway) I figured, how hard can Purist be? VERY HARD, is the answer. Not having the Dragon Shield is such a huge hindrance. I barely made it to the sixth subdungeon. A Dwarf Rogue did about as well. I might try an Orc Paladin or Dwarf Thief?

Meanwhile, a Paladin that I was trying with Hoarder made it to the ninth floor. With better luck (like, I really could have used GETINDARE; also, more gorgons and fewer warlocks please?) and a little practice, it might be within reach.
