Purist Oddballs, I think

Postby Lujo on Thu Mar 12, 2015 7:42 pm

Well, this is another thing PQI keeps bringing out, which is what happens when you underplay a race as much as I did Goblins:

PURIST PQI - Goblin Thief - Western Jungle - Faithless

Image

Well, it was an easy map, generally speaking, but it does have a fair bit of stuff that randomly resists teleporty-slowy effects and it's kinda tight and mazy, and the boss isn't the friendliest if you go all spellcaster and stuff on it. However, if you're gonna hoard&spike with your endgame big bars, the Gobbo is a nifty little bugger. Wasn't Miser and I made good use out of the Health pendant, but other than that and a really late Dragonsoul (and a Spoon!) this was also a bit of a Miser run on top of everything else. Had a whole prestige ding worth of convertible crap and most of my potions left, too. Tack JJ onto this guy, it's a JJ Gobbo with big bars, popcorn munching power, loads of junk everywhere and rather nifty potions, could very well do VT's. No reason to avoid the combo, it's just I seem to have been a stubborn mule about avoiding Goblins in the past I suppose.

Playing with 5 altars and the Collar is one of my fave combos. Sooo many possibilities, on top of having all your gods 'unnerfed'.

Also, ty guys for the replies, it's kinda very helpful because otherwise a page would only contain posts with run rundowns and pictures and this makes them kinda harder to load and stuff.

And yeah - you inspired me to revisit the max lego crusade Gnome, that was sooooo fun. Works with any race, too, you just pick different stuff. ^^

---

More Yendorgorgon:

PQI - Hex Ruins - Gorgon - Cheeky

Image

Well, bringing in the Yendor wasn't enough, I just had to PoS them for the lols. Had to move the lousy greensnake by hand, too, all across the map, but it was soooo worth it.

---

And the PQI doesn't let up, I've underplayed Goblin Thieves:

PQI - Cursed Oasis - Goblin Thief - Miser

Image

Who, apparently, kick quite a bit of posterior. This wasn't Western Jungle, this was Purist - Miser CO. I went to test Purist/Miser PoS, and had a Gobbo with an Alch pact, the results are kinda obvious. I also went Drac, remembering the awesome elf run in Slime Pits, so I got a bunch of damage, lifesteal and sanguine, killeda bunch of popcorn for piety, later converted a lot of glyphs, swapped into TT, even got a set of dodgestep and all in all had a nice game.

Unstoppable on Cursed Oasis - still bugged.

---

Then the PQI got the better of me, but the wonderful Gnome Crusader still rocked:

(FAILED) VT PQI - Gnome Crusader - Shifty Brickwork - DING! Max / Vicious / Shennanigans

Image

I'm glad this guy seems to be my least played Crusader, because now I can troll the PQI ^^ I triumphed over the dreaded Shifty Brickwork, even though it spawned the Goo in order to thwart my plans to PoS like a boss! Which meant that for a change I played a map where there was actual PoS resistance (that's the only way that can happen, if both bossess have it, apart from the nice Druid fellow).

Still, TT Crusader is a grade-A Michael Bay (works fine as a plain ole Gobbo, Gobbo TT Crusaders are downright nasty), but if you're an Alch Pact Gnome with 5 altars and a collar, you CAN PoS down one VT boss and burninate another ^^ If you're not goofing around, Momentum's pretty great for popcorn-munching. I even had Drac for the DING! Max, but I failed it not because it wasn't doable but because I accidentally rush-clicked on the exit as soon as the Goo dropped :(

Epic win is still epic win, so I kept it.

---

I love it when the PQI sets me up with something that's actually murderous:

(FAILED) VT PQI - Magma Mines - Halfling Assassin (w Codex) - Specialist

Image

Well, I failed because it's 3:30 AM and all that. And I also kinda lost my touch with the Codex, I cheezed it really hard on one playthrough, this time around I'm playing stuff I used to cheeze it with straight, but these little bastards are soooo nice with it.

Also - I took Warriors pact, and what it did was... Not much. It added 27 health by the point I was fighting the last boss, for 81 piety. Draco's heart had added the same ammount by that point, but it didn't lock me out of EM, which this thing did do, and I was kinda floundering through the run unable to clean up plants properly and stuff. I guess I could've bought a burn salve and did some moping up, but eh... Still, didn't seem like a bad combo for it in theory, but in practice the piety cost is just too... damned... hiiiiiigh. And I even locked my self out of consensus with it.

Now that I think about it, I think dropping piety randomly is what cause me to flounder, maybe I'm still fine with the Codex. I also had a really difficult time finding my 12 mana point.

---

I'll chug my Camomile Cauldron, hope it knocks me out. I'm failing PQI's, that's not good.

---

I bet everyone's PQI is infested with these:

PQI - Halfling Warlord - Berserker Camp - Parched

Image

These guys just have no sinergy between the CP and the Class whatsoever (which isn't generally the case with Halflings and Cydstep but it is with Halflings and Warlords). It's a good thing I didn't bring in the VT, because this was also a Parched Halfling run, and it involved Drac (so a Cydstepless Warlord who's also a Parched Halfling) on a map with a lot of undead, with the other god being Mystera on a map with a lot of magic attack guys (with wraiths nicely being a red flag for either of them).

Eh, messed up run, I gotta say. Glenrick, Soul Orb, not converting Endiswall, B2P, lifesteal, refreshment and even a JJ desecration to get back into Drac. I mean, I did it and all that, and I suppose any halfling makes a good gimped Warmonger, but I suppose this is one of those classess that never ever gets picked and is always in your least played Warlord and always a staple feature of anyone's PQI.

Well, I suppose you could go for the trisword, and save exploration by potion spiking stuff it's just that sooooo many other things just work plain better. A class/race sinergistic Warlord is so far above the curve it's not funny, while this guy really makes no sense whatsoever. Play him like a dwarf, healthmonster with warlord fueled level-ups for a health spike end game?

---

Eh, this one was supposed to be another lovely Gnome Crusader, but the game crashed mid way through, and then the PQI change it's mind:

PQI - Dwarf Crusader - Halls of Steel - Purist

Image

And, well, it wasn't too special. I couldn't find any alters, and the first one I found was GG, so I went with Cleansing spam and momentum based higher level kills to get my level high and then it was a knockback melee thing againt the Indomitable, and a health potion spike (helped by having dodge) vs Frank.

---

And, well, this was rather straightforward:

VT PQI - Nothern Desert - Half-Dragon - Specialist

Image

Since Half-Dragon can only fail Specialist by using Pissorff...

---

And then I decided to try a non-PoS Orc Fighter, but I failed the PQI by accident:

(FAILED) VT PQI - Orc Fighter of Drac - Southern Swamp - Specialist

Image

I failed it due to instinctivelly casting the Fireball to empty my pool before a ding, which was just dumb, so I converted it immediately afterwards. Kept the kill. Wasn't bad all in all, it's kidna the same deal as if I were a dwarf (and I tried to simulate it with the gauntlets and the Troll Heart).

---

I thought there'd be more plant-cannon and stuff, but:

Taurog-Dragon - Ick Swamp

Image

it turned out to be a somewhat simple Taurog into Drac res stacking job. I keep playing these guys as Warmongers, but as any knockback dork, not actually going full warmonger and keeping a positioning glyph or two would make them significantly stronger. Than this. That's rather brutal.

---

I actually wondered if I felt like doing this, didn't want to PoS, it was hoarder... Ended up doing it:

PQI - Orc Wizard - Eastern Tundra - Hoarder (+ Purist)

Image

...for some completion and in case this gets the rather unbeloved Hoarder badge done another time.

---

Well, here's something I haven't played much, either:

PQI - Orc Transmuter - Havendale Bridge - Purist

Image

Wasn't terrible, tbh.

Things Got Dangerous!

Postby Lujo on Sat Mar 14, 2015 12:54 pm

So the PQI decided to go all tricky and stuff and set me up with this, Vicious stuff gonna get PQI'd with weird guys and girls it seems:

PQI - Goblin Thief - Namtar's Lair - Specialist

Image

Well, I tried my best to VT it, but ended up messing up on one bottom form or another over and over due to bringing the wrong stuff in (I need to get a tattoo on my hand saying "Bloody Namtar Forms Are Undead, Convert the Apheelsick Doofus!"), so I wussed out and went regular difficulty. The PQI sniggered and gave me Piercing Wand, Glenrick and Zombie Gold to make sure I don't mess up. I also made good use of bout 3-4 sets of TT potions down below, and I even brough in the Wheytwut + Pissorff combo.

Big Props to Lemisi, too - I didn't even use it with Zombie Gold, it revealed all the important stuff right off the bat, and then I kept it in my inventory and got about 3 full refills off it topside which would otherwise not have been there (which is why I went Unstoppable). Wonnafyt was obviously great as always, both topside and in Zombie Gold.

Shame I couldn't VT it, but if you're not going VT vicious, Gobbo Thief of JJ is kinda legit.

---

Then this quick little thing:

VT PQI - Eastern Tundra - Orc Paladin - Unstoppable

Image

Avoiding Orcs - good for your PQI and your cash. Also, I've kinda underbought Platemail on this playthrough, felt nice to just get my level up and snag it.

---

Deffinitely my (and I suppose everyone's) least played Warlord, but:

PQI - Halfling Warlord - Hex Ruins - Purist

Image

I whish the victory screen showed end stats, because this little bastard had 190 HP and 19 mana. JJ really hands it out for Getindare and Bycepps, enough for so much stuff it's unbelievable. I also kinda went unstoppable the legit way except I got a high lvl Naga stoned, and then I killed Frank without a single Cydstep and while just in JJ.

Don't convert Byceps when in JJ - pick it up and find punching bags, and also spam it while moping up popcorn.

---

Then the PQI was some Gorgon I didn't feel like, so I did this:

Goatperson - Rock Garden

Image

Went in without a ledger, got nowhere, went in with the ledger, had fun and won.

---

I was kinda expecting to get spammed by vicious PQI's, but apparently not yet:

PQI - Western Jungle - Goblin Monk - Specialist

Image

I tried to VT it, but couldn't, but then I decided to still do it because I'd preffer to get a few of these Gobbo Monks out of the system before the Vicous PQI stuff starts flooding in.

---

And them I get my least played Tinker combo, which is ofc:

VT PQI - Goblin Tinker - Venture Cave - Warmonger

Image

The attempt without the dagger was murderously difficult, the one with the Dagger (and, well, TT on board) was very easy. Still I could've maybe won the previous one if the boss wasn't the Goo.

---

So then the PQI decided I haven't played many of these either:

PQI - Dwarf Tinker - Berserker Camp - Unstoppable

Image

Except lately I have, and regular difficulty Berserker Camp, as oposed to the VT one, is rather easy, so I kinda stomped it. Was a lot of fun, though as it was a JJ Dwarf Tinker who found both Brandon and the Agnostic Collar, which kinda meant that instead of the usual healthmonster I turned into a everything-but-resists monster. Fun!

---

And then the PQI pointed out that while Halfling Warlords are probably the least played ones, these guys are about on par:

PQI - Dwarf Warlord - Southern Swamp - Warmonger

Image

And being a purist Warmonger Dwarf Warlord who absent mindedly converted all of his mana potions, it felt like I was really playing a guard, except at one point I turned into a huge health blob and got 3 level so Sanguine for complete blobbing.

---

And a quick hobbler:

PQI - Half-Dragon - Hobbler's Hold - Something

Image

---

Then a rather silly PQI with an interesting tidbit learned:

VT PQI - Orc Paladin - Creeplight Ruins - Parched

Image

Fun Fact: Apparently, Cultists trigger Body pact twice, whetehr they get turned into Zombies or Wraiths. This is very, very nice random bit of info ^^

Curious Fact: Apparently, I've underplayed Orc Paladins as much as I've underplayed Goblin Thieves and worse than Gnome Berserkers. Weeeeeird.

---

This is a bit ridiculous, but it gives me an opportunity for a shoutout to Tinker:

PQI - Goblin Thief - Havendale Bridge - Purist

Image

Because her experiments with GG are totally onto something. I wonder why GG gobbos were never a thing, I bet they could be quite nuts ^^

Also - really, last time I was PQI spammed by a single-race class as much as this was when it was Dwarf Assassinss all the way down, but this time I kinda set myself up for it by keeping my Thieves open thinking I'd get Dwarves. Nope. This seems to be one of my all time lowest played combinations. Which actually kinda makes sense - I overused thieves with potion guys back when they were broken, and then later I've avoided JJ like the plague, which meant I never figured out his sinergy with Gobbos, and GG was broken so I played him with monks and never figured out that goblin + GG is actually a rather cool combo.

Took the Goblin Sorcerer of GG to Namtar's Lair - no end screenie, but there's a vid :) It's very quiet and muttery unless you have headphones/speakers:

Goblin Sorcerer of GG - Namtar's Lair

---

(FAILED) PQI - Dwarf Transmuter - The Labyrinth - DING! Max

Image

I failed it because I forgot I was even on a PQI, but it was really nice, it's a Drac Dwarf with scounting and built in damage powerups, what's not to like... Even scored an Endiswal, was pretty easy.
