05-07-2015 / Human Fighter in Slime Pit
This one was great fun. With JJ in rotation and near the entrance, Earthmother to allow for guaranteed late-game Chaos Avatar, two pairs of Elven Boots available, and plenty of easy popcorn, the spellcasting power you could achieve was absolutely exquisite. Carved through both bosses effortlessly and completely forgot about using the Knockback/Corrosion combo I'd planned on exploiting. No regrets with taking the Bear Mace over Mystera, which was a difficult decision for me.

My only slip-up was over-exploring and thus leaving no exploration room for beating down SMM, but there were so many resources available here that this was an inconsequential mistake for me. Surprisingly little piety from JJ today despite playing a bit of peek-a-boo.

Piercing Wand gave you a melee option for Tower of Goo, but you might do better leveling up and then spamming fireballs anyway. The great thing about Piercing Wand, though, is that it's never too early to start.

Martyr Wraps were pretty good for Super Meat Man. Corrosion is sort of bad, but then again, you can just choose to take the corrosion along with the Slime Pit corrosions and plan on buying Burn Salve. Planning to double up on your ailment for a net gain seemed to work out alright.

So I generally went for high-level kills with Martyr Wraps on Meat Men mostly, but also some Goo Blobs. Monk does it better, but at least Fighter levels up that much faster to compensate. Being level 6 or 7 and having a lot of popcorn left makes it somewhat easy to ding, especially with a human's late-game one-shotting power. I didn't do it perfectly, but I got a little lax because I could tell it was working out ok. Blue Bead also fit nicely with all of this, so you can weave an extra fireball or two in between dings.

I went with Mystera into Earthmother. Mystic Balance only. I converted glyphs early, so Refreshment wasn't going to work as well as Clearance. Also, Vine Form is great for Super Meat Man + Martyr Wraps.

I'm not sure I had fun for the same reasons as Darvin, but this setup did have a lot going for it for this particular dungeon.

Two hits of boost mana, two elven boots, and extra mana boosters = 27 max mana. Fireball spam ahoy! Ironic that I ended up with a more caster-centric build by not prepping Mystera.

Fun fact: if you prep the extra altar, it turns out to be Mysteria.

I screwed up early on by accidentally petrifying the level 2 Meat Man I worked on because he was still targeted, rather than petrifying a level 1 dork before killing him like I intended. I probably overexplored a bit after that but I was able to leverage a level up during both bosses, something I'm not usually that great at doing, and combined with 25 mana and a blue bead I didn't need Chaos Avatar, which is good because my piety was horrible and I couldn't reach it.

Today was bit of a pushover... Human Fighter is a really strong versatile build that has an easy time leveling, and has a lot of late game punch. So I took the gamble with Martyr Wraps but it turned out not to be much of a gamble in the end, because with JJ on board, my corrosion stacks got wiped, while everyone else was left with theirs... :)

If anything, the one tidbit that needs a bit of balancing is that Wraps urges you to explore quickly to land as many stacks of Corrosion as possible on bosses/high-level monsters, which can prove to be a nuissance; having 2-3 level-ups banked for the bossfights helps a lot, though...

Went for slamming bosses into eachother because I could pre-corrode the SMM a bit more thanks to a few free hits, and so Goo went down as collateral (as well as some high-level meatman that I found too late to want to touch :P ).
