Half-Dragon, Labyrinth

Okay, this thread deserves most of the credit for my victory in this run. I followed the advice to prep the bonus glyph (WEYTWUT) and not to prep any of the altars. I also knew the location of SMM, although I don’t know whether that was a big advantage. I went with bonus glyph, Translocation Seal (which I didn’t use until after I had won because I had no free inventory space), Namtar’s Ward, Bear Mace.

It was an okay run. I had some problems to figure out which glyphs to use. I kept WEYTWUT and APHEELSIK and converted everything else at level 5 or 6 or so. Apart from SMM, I did minimal regen-fighting, though. Probably should have kept a different glyph until the start of the SMM fight (my second boss). Regarding Gods, I worshipped Binlor for most of the run and only switched to Taurog during the post-victory mop-up phase. Stone Skin really saved my butt against berserker mode Rex as I had converted all direct damage glyphs at that point and didn’t have the health to survive a hit. (I had never noticed how useful that boon can be.) After Rex was down, I counted the remaining black space (about 30 tiles), poisoned SMM for a sufficient amount, converted the glyph, bought the Platemail, teleported SMM to a good location, and smashed him in some walls until he gave up. Then I figured out how to kill the remaining monsters and got rewarded with the “Spoilered” badge.

Here are some bad misplays to restore universal balance:

Rat Monarch, Magma Mines

Monsters in awkward spaces series continues.

Rat Monarch is so intense. Especially when you level after killing the phys immune subboss only to realize you need to take ~90% damage (after ENDISWALL) from 1hp magic immune subboss because, although physical, PISORFing is magic.

Wow. Having never played Rat Monarch before, that was... intense. Having two extra bosses is great, though - 50G is worth a few heals. I didn't realize until much too late that I should have been PISORFing things into the magic immune boss once I got him corroded, but I was still able to get there anyway. It sure would be nice to have a few easy ones in a row now, though. Please?

Couldn't even defeat a single boss. I probably should have held off on Taurog so that I could hit a high enough level using PISORF abuse to survive a hit against Durr.

This was rough, especially with 2 out of 3 bosses hiding. Dracul was a really bad prep, but I felt like with no alternatives, Blood Shield was better than nothing.

Fewer Glyphs let me stack tons of CP, and the free PISORF subdungeon offset the glyph loss.

Just barely won. It literally took the last blackspace tile to cast the last fireball, after using Blood Swell and killing the last low-level creep to wipe the curse. I could've done things better - I could've converted the right things at better times and stacked corrosion better, or I probably could've gambled on a random deity (but there are some horrible ones - TT especially, and Taurog is pretty bad, and this one did appear. I could have done GG for Humility alone, but early levels would've been hard - and Rat Monarch scales with "canon" levels, rather than these invisible humility levels.

The gold spike from the dual bosses was really crucial, but I almost lost the run anyway. It takes so long just to be able to land hits, even with Blood Shield. I think hardcore Binlor would work - do the magic-immune boss first. But Binlor wasn't there for me (I don't know who Dracul replaces today). I needed overheal and/or ENDISWAL to hit anything. It was nuts.

I actually tried to use the compression seal--that didn't work. But, it turned out 5 CP was better than those god penalties, since they both happened to show up. Used a combination of ENDISWAL, Rock Heart, and Balanced Dagger for most of the leveling up, trying to never waste blackspace.

Killed what few low level undead were there and joined Dracul to get resistances and one level of lifesteal.
Since I had used up so many walls by the time I found the sub-D, I just took the 150 CP.

Didn't pick up BURNDARAZ until I had to fight the minibosses. I used 3 mana potions and a purchase of the fireball ring to finish them off. Then with the Drac level up, two levels of Sanguine and the Crystal Ball the boss was easily killed.
Ending up leaving two level 8 Goblins alive.
