I pretty much never scum.
The closest I'll get is bailing on a run if I end up getting a bad configuration of monsters that forces me to explore way too much of the dungeon at the early levels.
What's the deal with that? Don't you understand that your technique is allready giving you so much of an advantage over the intended power curve that you don't need to scum?
(Oh, and if you want to do anything purist, just take a gnome bloodmage and pay minimal attention. It'll take you more effort to chase badges than beating dungeons dacfrsure)

You can't prep a specific boss on a random dungeon. Scumming isn't something I do regularly, but when I do it's for something that you can't get from preps.

If I had my way, there wold be some sort of sandbox mode that you could unlock so that you could have fun experimenting with all sorts of once-in-a-lifetime set ups.
Why would any sane person NEED any of the things you mention?

You don't need them, but that doesn't mean you don't want to crush powerful monsters beneath your ridiculously over-sized boot, hence scumming.
