Apheelsicked for extra damage then used binlor (prepped) so that I could tank hits. I would have used pisorf to get the extra piety I needed but pactmaker showed up so consensus made it a non-issue. . .
WHETWUT was to get rid of his first strike for the final blow
edit: In retrospect this could easily be done Warmonger as long as pactmaker shows up
Wow, that sounds like a really fun and interesting method - I was very curious how you did it from your initial description. I never did it that way because I never lockered Yendor when I was doing it. Also, people tend to forget just how good Binlor's piety spike is.
"String of free hits" were always a bit of passion of mine, but some thread somewhere made me go and apply it to a lvl1 bosskill back when we were debating (or winding up for the debate) on whethr the old trisword was broken. It was. Somebody, either Dreamdancer or someone, starded doing weird lvl1 kills with the Transmuter so I gave it a go
I'm way too rusty to even attempt it, but I remember doing Namtar in with it (well, it's easier than some regular VT stuff). I'm also kind of sure there's a vid of me doing the SMM in in Venture cave.
My preffered "throw money at it" solution is Fabulous Treasure + Orc + prepped TT. You can pretty much convert everything and still tribute up a string of potions.
Also, I'm not sure anything needs to be nerfed. Trisword was warping the entire game and learning curve on it's own. This is a fun puzzle which requires you to know how many things interact, all the sources of free hits, world class CP/piety shennanigans, knowlegde of preps even some pro's don't have (because prepping habits actually go the other way with pros) and all that. And it still won't get you through Dragon Isles, DL, NC, VHoS and VGT (and quite possibly a few other places).
TBH I got the idea from Darvin's musings about base damage being the overall most important stuff. As usual I took it to the logical extreme. What's funny is that people really approach preps differently and this affects them strongly, so in that sense the locker as-is is working. On the other hand, I could've played for a million years and never discovered what Jay did because I would never locker Yendor because of the locker-as-is.
Aynway here's the vid:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqbbo_MMfr8
It has some rambling on the issues of the day in the beginning, oh well... It's also nowhere near perfect play or foolproof
