There's no cap to bragging thankfully, and I hope these posts won't discourage anyone from posting in the topic. I really like reading others' achievements and writeups on unusual runs.

Btw you should really try the triple quests once, they are immensely fun and can be very challenging too. I still need to beat 2 of them.

Finally beat Namtar's Lair today! That makes 3 vicious dungeons down. Woo!

It was a crazy run. I was playing a gnome wiz who started worshiping JJ and converted to Drac later. Namtar's 2nd form almost ended the whole thing. No mater what I did, I couldn't figure out a way to get my HP or resistances high enough to tank a single hit from him. I was so close though, we're talking 2 or 3 hp short! To rub salt in that wound, I took boost mana but not boost HP earlier in the level while I was still worshiping JJ.

I don't know that having taken boost hp would have been the right play anyways as piety was really tight and I was going to drink every one of those hp potions, except for the two I had to convert to get mana potions on form 2. Seriously, I had to convert everything. I had a fireball, endwall, one hp potion, and nothing else in my inventory when Namtor 2.0 dropped. Thank god he drops so much gold, I was able to buy a HP potion keg and fine sword before heading down.

I'd made it as far as form 4 once before and it almost killed me this time too. I almost forgot that retaliate fireball mobs can still be killed with one safely, but I remembered just before I gave up and threw my computer across the room, which is nice. Endwall was clutch.

Form 5 wasn't too bad, but I was just crazy nervous at this point because I was out of potions and didn't know what was going to happen next and really wanted to make it. Also, a random dodge from like 2 castings of first strike half an hour ago showed up here and smoothed things out.

Form six was a joke, but I'm not complaining- story wise it was cool to drag this thing back into hell as we both got weaker and weaker, and emotionally I was really relieved to see it was something I could kill, lol.

When I won, I had to read the description on Namtar's Ward 5 times before I believed it. The VERY next thing I did was fire up an orc rogue with it and rofled a couple non-viscous runs. That thing is strong. Can't wait to see what items the other viscous dungeons have for me, assuming they do have items. V. Halls of Steel gave me nothing, lol.

Congratulations! I always find Namtar's Lair to be the most painful vicious dungeon. I've been playing it more recently, and it definitely feels like the combination of very limited exploration space + blinking lifestealers, along with a monster set that has basically no easy targets unless you have a lot of magic resistance, makes it very difficult to reach a point where you can comfortably take on Namtar's first and seconf forms (Unsurprisingly, Binlor is one of the best ways of dealing with all that). So great job on beating him! Now that you've got your first victory in the place, you may find that the third, fourth and fifth forms are significantly easier to deal with so long as you've prepared for them. And I agree, the whole dungeon's progression is immensely satisfying and I think it's probably Desktop Dungeon's coolest storytelling segment.

Congrats!

I'm a little surprised your NL first win wasn't a Berserker. Not that there's anything wrong with a Wizard, but the Berserker's huge MR and bonus damage are well-suited to Namtar's Lair.

And yeah, figuring out what to do about Namtar's 112 attack is one of the tricky parts about NL, since a basic level 8 character will have 104 HP and getting to 9 is pretty tough with those monsters. A lot of gods can give you either a HP or MR boost to get you there.

If you've finished VS, the other two Vicious dungeons definitely have interesting trophies for you.

Congrats!

Beating NL for the first time is very satisfying ! And nice job doing it with a caster too, harder than choosing a strong melee guy with possibly some MR.

Congrats!

I always thought that place was the most difficult of all VT runs, so big props! Also, if you're looking to clog up your lockers with cool Vicious grade junk, give tackling Dragon Isles a try for the simplest to use one :)

Well, here's what Michael Bay looked like at the end of a regular NC run. Not sure if it's worth a brag, but it's my first vicious item unlock on this profile :) And, well, this is the first time I descended at lvl 10 and had this much stuff left over. TT topside into Mystera bottom.

Been trying the same with the Vicious Token before, 4 or 5 times I failed and I'm not sure it's even doable. Then I went and tried it without VT, and it mops the floor with NC hard. Well, I did use the guitar. Anywho, prep screen and details in the other thread, but people who know NC might get quite a story out of that there picture.

Big props to Tinker for the build, it's rather legit (just apparently not necessarily on NC VT, or at least not the way I went about it).

A couple more VGT classes bagged.

Assassin: Man, I just don't have the part of my brain that makes Assassins work well for everyone else. This was a struggle. The damage penalty is a drag; the monsters always seemed to spawn in the corners that made First Strike not work. Eventually I got a relatively lucky item/glyph/misfortune break and made it through.

Sorcerer: By contrast, this went very smoothly. Sorcerer is just a dynamite collection of blunt, powerful class features and I do love brute force, even brute magical force. (see: my avatar :) )

Priest: Went pleasantly well. Turning zombies and wraiths from the most dangerous monsters to the least is a big deal, and the HP bonus goes nicely with Sanguine.

Monk: I thought this would be a struggle, since the Monk loves blackspace and VGT is notoriously short on blackspace. Turns out the Monk is super good here; I totally see why Astral went this way for Warmonger. Double strength blackspace goes a LONG way. I actually hotdogged here by not taking Sanguine. (And Whrbargl was my only punch-through-H's-resistance item)

Paladin: This was, unsurprisingly, dynamite. 25% resistance and a bonus HALPMEH is a winning VGT combination. I didn't even sign up for Drac until right before H's floor, at which point I got 110 free piety.
