Wow...this felt like a "masters" lesson. I lost but learned. Got to level 6 but by then all the critters were more powerful and all the lifesteal in the world wasn't helping.
Big thanks to fall_ark for the screen shots. I really love seeing how you guys (and girls?) who know what you are doing approach a level.
Also, Tinker.... I was very curious why you chose to both add and remove glyphs...thanks for explaining. Loving the geek thing.
My layout seemed awfully unlucky. After killing a few low level beasts and levelling there seemed to be a total shortage of targets. I swear, I uncovered a third of the tiles before finding anything...and didn't get to the platemail until it was way too late (and I was out of cash).
Never played a vamp before and looked at the wiki for tips. "Find a Meatman" it said. Level designer obviously took advantage of that red herring. Nary a meat bag in sight. I couldn't find any monster that I could use to restore hits other than a level 3 snake guy.
I think I made one big blunder in the prep by not choosing the orb. Those gloves just sounded way too cool. :-)
Technical question: how do these levels get created? I can imagine the templates for the maps being somewhat variable..but what about the population of monsters, stores, etc? Is it a massive, crazy algorithm or is there a more manual approach..or an alchemistic mixture of both?

I kind of felt that I wouldn't do too well today, and as expected my streak ended again.

Found Platemail super late (last shop I found, and almost all map explored) and also, I only had 1 level of lifesteal for most of the time since I didn't convert the Endiswall and Burndayraz I had found, Alpheesik and Bludtopowa both I also found them super late and by the time I converted them, I had already wasted too much popcorn.

Long story short, in the end, I expended all my bloodpools and potions just to beat Rex. Had nothing left to go against the second boss. I was only at level 8 (not high enough) so even if I had 7 levels of lifesteal and platemail, it just wasn't enough to beat the second boss' 97 damage.

Back to starting from 0.

i found plate at lvl6, pop up zot and fight Rex (with a level catapult). After Rex, with most of blood pool untouched and some blackspace, i could fight the snake boss without problem.
Maybe i was lucky in some way, but i didn't find this run so hard as other. I prep Zot, Bear mace, shield and extra attack (pretty standard prep for what i see in the daily table). I was a little scare during the Rex fighting, because i thought i need to consume most of my resource, but after a while i realized i could beat him with a level up (i had most of my popcorn untouched).
Vampire blade and Fine sword were great item, specially with plate mail.
I shouldn't have picked gettindare so early (and i had to convert it for endiswal/burnydiraz), but i have this bad habit to pick every glyph i see if i have slot item available  anyway everything better than expected

Tight. My vamp play is incredibly rusty and I'm off form today, not many great bloodcows. Still always nice to break the top ten for time just by virtue of a difficult dungeon. Oh, and the top ten overall again. Don't feel like I really earned it with today's performance.
