Meat is Murder is the Monk gold challenge. It takes place in The Slime Pit.
Resources Available
No preparations are allowed. The dungeon has random glyphs ( BURNDAYRAZ is guarenteed as usual), no shops, and no subdungeons. Two of the following altars spawn:
The Earthmother,
Taurog, and
Jehora Jeheyu.
Monsters
Meat Man: See Special Rules
Goo Blob: Physical Resist 50%
Golem: Magical Resist 50%
Gelatinous Thing: Retaliate: Fireball
Acid Blob: Corrosive: 1, Magical Attack
Slime Blob: Curse Bearer, Magical Attack
Muck Walker: Undead, Bloodless, Weakening Blow
There may also be an additional unlocked monster present.
Special Rules
Just like in The Slime Pit, the Meat Men will "begin to rot" after a certain number of kills, causing them to become poisonous and eventually corrosive.
The boss is Superduper, a blue Meat Man that has 25% Physical Resist and 2280 HP (!).
Strategy
This challenge is one of the tougher gold challenges, and requires a bit of luck. As usual with Monk, the Orc Monk is your best bet to cancel out your pitiful base damage. You'll need a LOT of blackspace to regen-fight Superduper, so finding him early is imperative. The challenge is in finding ways to level up without taking too many debuffs from the nasty array of monsters present.
Gods
Jehora Jeheyu is underwhelming. Chaos Avatar could handle a lot of problems, the extra mana and health are useful, and a potential full heal can make this child's play, but wading through debuffs to get there isn't usually worth the effort. The best strategy is probably to start with
The Earthmother or
Taurog and convert between them as needed. If you can't find both, one can manage with either, but it will be much tougher.
Earthmother plays as normal here, and can be a welcome reprieve from Taurog's dislike of glyph casting late game, one can consider worshipping earth mother, converting out, and then back in, because her free glyph can fuel Taurog and you have plenty of ways to gain piety for both.
Taurog is really only for his blade, shield, and armor, and as a piety farm. You are region fighting the boss so a few stacks of death protection aren't very helpful and 15% magic resistance isn't doing you any favors. Consider converting out after getting the boons you want, especially if earthmother is available.
Glyphs
There are several glyphs that are extremely helpful for this challenge. APHEELSIK is the holy grail of the monk class - it synergizes with
BURNDAYRAZ and is incredibly powerful for defeating the boss.
BYSSEPS also goes a long way in eroding Superduper's pesky physical resist.
HALPMEH can also be useful, particularly once the meat men become poisonous. One should carefully consider whether to convert these for Taurog and extra damage or keep them for the boss, because you only have space for 2 of them, and one should always be apheelsick if you can find it.
The Fight
If you can get to level 6 or 7 or even 8 before fighting this thing while preserving most of the black space, do it, but once you are level five and have uncovered half the map, you should start on the boss. You will find a lot of popcorn and pickups lying around as you fight the boss, so you will get more powerful, don't worry if it is slow going at first, but eat popcorn as you find it, ideally you slowed everything already with The Earthmother, and are getting the extra experience. If you found both Earthmother and
Taurog you should have little problem, especially with
APHEELSIK, otherwise this will be a tough, long battle, and you may end up having to retry after each fruitless attempt. It is possible to win even without both gods you want and apheelsik but if you want to make this challenge easy, reroll if you don't find that holy trinity before fighting the boss. That will save some time and pain.
